Saga Dawa celebrations at The Marpa Centre – Sunday 31st May

Saga dawa, the most sacred month in the Buddhist calendar, is almost here! The whole month is very auspicious for practice and making offerings.  We warmly invite you to join us on Sunday, May 31st, for a special day of practice, community, and sharing. This is the day that the Buddha was born, became enlightened, and passed away.

Here is what we have planned for next Sunday:

  • 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm: Communal Lunch & Connection
    • A wonderful time to share food and friendship with our sangha, family, and friends. Please bring a plate to share!
  • 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm: Movie Screening Buddha – The Historical Facts Documentary
  • 2:30 pm - 3.30 PM 6 Arhat Puja Practice and candle offering
    • Join us for this beautiful, auspicious practice to mark this special day.
  • Feel free to stay on at the centre to do your own meditation practice in our gompa

Let’s gather to make the most of this significant, merit-multiplying time. We look forward to seeing you there!

A WEEKEND RETREAT WITH LAMA CHOEDAK RINPOCHE

6.30 pm Friday 8th to 5pm Sunday 10th May 2026

Calm Abiding Meditation and The Five Wisdoms

Calm Abiding Meditation is central to all contemplative practices associated with all Buddhist traditions. Lama Choedak Rinpoche has been promoting Calm Abiding Meditation for 35 years here in Australia. He teaches four eight week Calm Abiding Meditation courses annually, conducts a number of weekend retreats and one 10 day annual residential retreat in SIBA.

In this weekend’s retreat, Rinpoche will lead Calm Abiding Meditation and will weave his pragmatic teachings in relation to the concept of FIVE BUDDHAS/FIVE WISDOMS/FIVE AGGREGATES/FIVE AFFLICTIONS and many pentads. Calming afflictions and subtle obscurations are the key purpose of meditation practice so that the calm, clear and wakeful mind sees things without the mental and cognitive obscurations. All are welcome.
